GWU GlobeMed feels strongly about getting involved in the discussion regarding health policy, especially with the recent administrative changes in the United States. Our members truly care about advancing healthcare around the world, and finding ways for people to receive care, regardless of their political environment. Our long-awaited Capitol Hilltop conference will be a chance to showcase the progress we have made with our partner organization, Set Her Free, and to converse with our peers and public
health experts regarding current healthcare legislation. The three-day conference will be held on April 13th -15th and will not only welcome GW students and staff, but GlobeMed chapters from other universities. As this is our first Capitol Hilltop conference, our members have been working hard for months to make it a success. The effort that has been put into organizing speakers, creating an itinerary, and promoting the event has not been easy, but we are more than excited to see it all pay off and have a great weekend. The jam-packed three days will consist DC tours, an evening banquet, and presentations from several public health professions, including:
– Loyce Pace, President of the Global Health Council
– Susan Wood, Former Director of FDA’s Office of Women’s Health
– Mark Logan, Chief Policy Officer at Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS,
Tuberculosis, and Malaria
– Elizabeth Harned, Vice President of Public Policy and Organizing for Planned Parenthood
– David Aylward, Executive Director of the National Institute for Medical Assistant
Advancement
– Lance Prince, Founding Director of the Antibiotic Resistance Action Center
– Elizabeth Gray, Research Scientist and George Washington Health Policy Professor
– Eliot Sorel, Senior Scholar in the Office of Clinical Practice Innovations in the George
Washington School of Medicine
As a freshman just getting involved in GlobeMed this semester, I feel extremely lucky to be a part of our first Capitol Hilltop. I am not only excited for the event, but I can’t wait to see the conference continue and become even more successful in the years to come. GlobeMed has been a very rewarding experience so far, and seeing the work and passion that has been put into this event is truly inspiring.
