GlobeMed is a national non-profit organization that aims to strengthen the movement for global health equity by empowering students and communities to work together to improve the health of people around the world. Each university is partnered with a non-profit around the world to promote grassroots change. Through involvement at over 50 universities today, students commit to a life of leadership in global health and social justice.
GlobeMed at GWU specifically aims to improve the health women and girls with our partner, Set Her Free, based in Kampala, Uganda. Set Her Free provides vocational training in tailoring, bead-making and hairdressing to women and girls so they can become financially independent. GWU GlobeMed supports Set Her Free through advocacy and partnership in long-term projects which includes a reusable pad program initiative piloted in rural schools in the Rakai district of Uganda in addition to the long-term development of a tailoring center in order to provide a sustainable means of continuing the program.
GWU GlobeMed also raises awareness about different public health issues through events held on campus throughout the year. Every member plays an important role in our organization. If you’re interested in joining or have more questions, please fill out the boxes below and we’ll get back to you!
